SUMMARY:Orchids Through Time
DESCRIPTION:Orchids Through Time is a fabulous exhibit of Orchids at the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton\, Alberta\, Canada. \nThe Muttart Conservatory and the OSPF are collaborating to exhibit a show like no other. This ten-week exhibition will run from September 2nd 2023 until November 19th 2023 in the beautiful Muttart Conservatory’s Feature Pyramid. \nThe OSPF will host an extensive list of programs and activities\, including talks on orchid conservation\, classes on potting and mounting of orchids\, and building orchid terrariums. Orchid growing supplies will be available for purchase. Local artisans and International vendors will be on site for the duration of the Show. The OSPF will be offering select orchid species for sale from its own collection. \nThe show will be open for viewing during Muttart’s regular opening hours (see Muttart Opening Hours). Regular admission fees to the Muttart apply. \nPlease contact the OSPF at ospf@orchidspecies.ca for more information.

DESCRIPTION:“CHINESE CYPRIPEDIUM ORCHIDS” \nOrchid Resource Centre (ORC) \nSATURDAY – 12 noon to 3pm \nWenqing Perner  \nHengduan Mountains Biotechnology\, Ltd. \nHer company is trying to preserve their native orchids.  She will talking on the following topics: \nOrchid conservation in China – in situ and ex situ \nAn overview over my work with orchids in China \nHengduan Biotech Ltd. – who we are and what we do \nA introduction to our company\, a German nursery and orchid lab registered in Sichuan province\, China\, specialized in slipper orchids\, but working on a much wider range of orchids as well as other plants. \n Cypripedium Mass-Propagation as a potent Conservation Tool \nFor more than a century cypripedium populations in the wild were depleted by commercial collectors\, leading to a considerable loss of populations and local extinction. In the late 20th century pioneers of cypripedium in-vitro propagation have devised feasible ways of laboratory mass-propagation that today can be used on an industrial scale. The talk gives a brief overview of the genus Cypripedium\, explains in detail its propagation from seed and introduces some of the most important pioneers in the field. \npresented by the Orchid Species Preservation Foundation
